Four Herbs for Healthy Summer Skin

If your summer plans include basking under a hot sun, you should be aware of herbs that protect from and treat sun-damage. As this blog from Bulk Herb Store explains, overexposure to UV rays can lead to damaged DNA, premature aging, and eye damage. Thanks to the four herbs they suggest -- Aloe, Comfrey, Horsetail, and Calendula -- you can protect your skin, and heal damaged skin if you do happen to get burned. They also nourish and strengthen the skin, making them great for year-round usage.

The first on the list, Aloe, is one of the most popular herbs you can use to sooth the skin:

1. Aloe
Aloe has skin soothing properties, and is one of the best herbs for your skin.
Why this is important: Aloe is great to use when you've been out in the sun too long and have a slight burn. It's known to heal wounds by increasing collagen production by up to 90%, and collagen is a very important structural element of the skin... one that disappears as you get older.
How to use it: Break a piece off of a fresh aloe plant, slice it open, and scrap out the insides. Rub it on your skin several times a day. You can also buy aloe gel or juice from many grocery stores, pharmacies, or markets and apply it the same way.
