We shouldn't need a holiday to want to turn up the heat on our sex lives, but if you haven't dabbled in the art of aphrodisiacs, what better time to start than the month of love? Aphrodisiac herbs elevate and nourish sexual desire by enhancing physical functions, such as increasing blood flow and balancing hormones, and shifting our mood to one that is more relaxed, stable, and sensually receptive. Not all herbal aphrodisiacs are created equally either -- some are better for stimulating and boosting energy, while others are potent heart-openers.
There are many reasons one may seek out aphrodisiacs. We might be overtired, overstressed, dealing with negative emotions or apathy… The list goes on. Identifying what's depleting your libido will help you select what herb is right for you. Both Herbal Academy of New England and Woolgathering & Wildcrafting, two amazing online herbal resources, have posted extensive blogs describing the effects of many aphrodisiac herbs, which you can see here and here.
